Volkswagen is now just a step away from being crowned as a number one car manufacturer in the global car industry. Or rather not quite shy of that one step either as Volkswagen’s future now lies in  General Motor’s hands. Very recently Volkswagen has delivered the good news proudly that it managed to push the Toyota Motors down the ladder to the third position in sales beating the Japanese car manufacturer seamlessly to occupy the number two slot by virtue of sales. While Toyota Motors managed to garner 7.9 million unit sales across the world, Volkswagen AG surpassed the number at 8.16 million units.

The world’s number one car manufacturer General Motors still holds the last card who has enough suspense created in the car industry without divulging its sales figures just as yet to see how far Volkswagen is successful in realising its dreams. The German car manufacturer with a handful of subsidiaries like Skoda, Seat  and luxury and super luxury car manufacturers also under its wing like Audi, Bentley and Porsche had been enlivening its dream to become a number one car manufacturer one day atleast by 2018. But, the fate has something else in store for the high-handed car manufacturer who is standing on the threshold of number one position which could lead to number one slot if luck is by its side or in the worst will have to compromise with the number two position. By any means, Volkswagen has far surpassed its own targets who just managed to bag the number one position in South China a couple of months back.

China and the Indian car markets still hold the potential to carve the success path to any car manufacturer and Volkswagen India has not let a single opportunity slip from its hands. Volkswagen India line-up is fraught with best-selling models right from the top end Volkswagen Phaeton to C-segment Volkswagen Vento in the sedan segment, Volkswagen Touareg in the premium SUV segment and the Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Beetle in the hatchback segment.  While each of the Volkswagen model has carved the niche of its own in the country, the car manufacturer had swept the 11th Auto Expo in India with the Volkswagen XL 1 concept and the new Volkswagen Beetle.  The auto major has left no scope for complaint coming up with the most fuel efficient car ever known until now with boasting of 111 kmpl mileage. General Motors better buckle up the seatbelts to run downhill to second position if not now, but in near future which is imminent.
