Biennial in course, the 10th Indian Auto Expo was held at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi with the curtain raiser on January 6th through the concluding valedictory function on January 11th of 2010. Marked as one of the most prestigious Auto exhibitions across the globe, the six day event was conducted in an extensively spread area of 1.25 lakh square meters under the supervision of the ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association), CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers). On an overall, the Auto Exhibition was considered to be a major success with as many as 12,05,152 visitors taking part in the event with both the general public and business visitors put together.
2010 Auto Expo was a clear example to show the increasing number of Auto aficionados across the world who poured-in in extremely large numbers of 10,04,124 from various parts of the world just to witness the variety of new cars to be launched and new concepts for the display at the Indian Exhibition. The number of business visitors were no less on any account with a participation seen from 21,615 visitors traveling across the oceans to mix the business and pleasure together to get the first hand information on the four wheelers displayed to use it for the business purposes. On the other hand, there was an enormous participation from within the country as well with 9,82,509 visitors with thoroughly business on mind. Though the overcrowded environment is not something to be easily wiped off especially with the OEMs, it has left a strong mark to well explain the importance with which the global players regard the Indian Motor Show.
Ever since the Auto Expo 2010, the Indian event is considered in the league of the Shanghai Motors Show in terms of the populace, while the event is of no less in importance in the standards of the North American Motors Shows like Los Angeles Auto Exhibition and Detroit Motor Show. The amazing participation from 30 different countries stunned many who did not expect this kind of turnover even in their slightest imagination. A heavy amount of participation is observed from the neighbouring countries and the other side of the globe alike beginning with India, Austria, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Columbia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hongkong, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Srilanka, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, UAE, United Kingdom and United States of America etc.
There were in all 24 new car launches apart from the new concepts from 42 different local and global car manufacturers. Though some cars were a major hit while some managed to garner a lukewarm sales, the visitors were able to witness the glory all the same with some revamped and brand new car launches like new Volkswagen Polo, Mahindra Scorpio, Chevrolet Captiva apart from the entry-level hatchback and sedans to the premium and luxury cars to include Chevrolet Beat, Toyota Etios sedan, Tata Aria, Maruti Eeco, Skoda Yeti, Fiat Punto Trendz, Fiat Punto Sports, Audi Q7 4.2 TDi, Maruti Kizashi, Jaguar XJ, Honda Small car concept, Maruti’s R III concept, Fiat Linea Dualogic, Mahindra Xylo Celebration, Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Aveo CNG and Hyundai i10 Electric. There are quite few number of cars we see today with major successes stories to boast of, while some concepts did materialize to launches, though some are still in the pipe-line but in production, awaiting the launch. An extensive media coverage was all present to give enough publicity to the event to make an everlasting impression globally which cannot be dismissed until now.
