The Indian auto market went through one of its best year performance in 2010 and the progress is continuing in this year as well. The entire auto industry is running at a high growth rate. Out of the entire industry, the entry-level sedan segment is to face a change in dynamics with some real big launches in this segment. The new launches can give a tough time to the established players in the segment. If we look into past, the segment was ruled by a single giant, Honda City and now the sales of the car simply show that the competition has arrived.

Among the top competitors comes the Volkswagen Vento has, Maruti Suzuki SX4 diesel. The segment will also receive some new models like next-generation Hyundai Verna and the all new Ford Fiesta. The launch of Hyundai Verna is due in the month of June while Ford Fiesta with global platforms will come soon after that.

Thus a change in segment’s dynamics can already be felt with a direct impact on all time favorite Honda City which is available only in a petrol version. If the last month sales are considered, Honda City reached 2,773 units whereas on the other hand, new models like Volkswagen Vento and diesel Maruti Suzuki SX4 showed far better performance.

Addressing the month’s sale figures, Jnaneswar Sen who is the Sales and Marketing head for Honda Siel said that the actual picture of market trend cannot be calculated from a month’s sale figure of Sedan Cars in India.
