The Italy based leading car-maker Fiat is planning to enhance the scope of use of its recently developed 900cc turbocharged two-cylinder engine which it is currently using in the upgraded version of Fiat 500. The mighty 900 cc power train has been developed with Fiat's revolutionary MultiAir technology and offers a maximum power of 85-horsepower. Excited about its continuously increasing popularity among buyers, the company is also planning to use it in some higher range cars from its stable.

The TwinAir powered Fiat 500 is scheduled to mark its debut in the month of September this year and is expected to be priced in the same range as its 1.4-litre gasoline fueled version. The new engine offers 30% higher fuel-economy as compared to the existing 1.2L engine in Fiat 500. With this, the new engine has revolutionized the performance of the Fiat 500 model. In this model, the engine has been coupled with a Dual Logic automated manual gearbox.

The new TwinAir engine enables the Fiat 500 to reach a top speed of 108 miles per hour and twin-air powered Fiat 500 just takes 11 seconds to reach a speed of 60 mph from a stand still position. With this, the emission level of this engine has been decreased considerably to just 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The company is also planning to roll-out 64 bhp and 105bhp versions of Twin-Air engine. It is speculated that the new engine will power some sibling brands of Fiat like Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Abarth or Chrysler group models.

Currently, the company manufactures TwinAir engine at its Poland facility where it is planning to enhance the engine production capacity to 400,000 units a year.
