Fiat may introduce Jeep and Abarth Punto at 2014 Indian Auto Expo

Fiat, the Italian carmaker had launched the revised Punto and Linea just ahead of the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, however we felt that the company should have launched the vehicles at the event, as the Expo is the best place to show your products to a large crowd, which helps you get the feedback and your shortcomings. However, this time the company is planning to make its mark at the next year's Indian Auto Expo. It has several products in the pipeline, which will be launched in India by the first half of 2014.

Fiat is all set to introduce the Jeep brand and a couple of more products in India within a year. Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler will be the first two products to be launched in India, and both have been spotted testing several times. Earlier it was speculated that Jeep brand will come by the festive season (Diwali & Dushera), but we expect that 2014 Auto Expo will be the best destination to introduce new vehicles in front of the large crowd. Not just Delhi, but the entire nation is looking forward to such an event.

Moreover, Fiat will also launch the performance oriented Abarth Punto in India by early 2014, and all the possibilities are there that it will make its way to the Motor Show. The facelifted Linea also caught on cameras during its test mule, however nothing has been confirmed about its actual launch date. The company might also launch this vehicle prior to the event and later showcase it there.

While the Jeep Wrangler is a true off-roader, Cherokee is a more upmarket product, crafted for urban Indian roads. The Abarth Punto will be introduced soon after the launch of the Jeep brand. It will share the Punto platform and will be rolled out of the Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra. It will be the first hot hatch in the country to develop power in excess of 110bhp. The performance oriented hatch will be propelled by the 1.4-litre T-Jet engine that also does duty to the Linea T-Jet.
