Fiat to phase -out Palio model in India

Fiat India, a subsidiary of Italian car manufacturer Fiat has announced that it will not upgrade its Fiat Palio model in the country. Before this, it was expected that the company will upgrade this model to make it compatible to new BS-IV emission norms which will come into effect from the month of April this year but as the sales of Palio model decreasing day by day company has decided to phase it out from its Indian portfolio. Where the recently launched hatchback Fiat Grande Punto has registered a high sales growth, the company somehow managed to sell less then 50 Palio model in a month.
According to Mr Rajiv Kapoor the Fiat Palio model will not be upgraded as per the new emission norms though sales of current model will continue. Fiat Palio model is currently available in two variants including Fiat Palio 1.1L and Fiat Palio 1.6L. Both the models come in a price range of Rs 3.5 to Rs 4 lakh. Palio model was first launched in India in year 2001 but it failed to perform as per the expectations and its sales decrease year by year.
Besides Fiat Palio the company has two more models in its India portfolio including hatchback Fiat Grande Punto and entry level sedan Fiat Linea. Both the models were launched last year in India and both are receiving good response from the Indian buyers. Company will double its current market share to 4% by the next year , by launching new variants of Fiat Grande Punto and Fiat Linea, said a company spokesman.
