American auto major, Ford which has already launched the EcoSport in some markets including Brazil, Argentina, China and Colombia, is yet to launch the vehicle in India, and that must happen in the first quarter of 2013, as per the company. The compact SUV has already created sensation for so many reasons be it the frugal 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, sub 4-metre length or its appearance, but one reason which makes the EcoSport a much awaited product is the fact that the vehicle will be priced very competitive as about 80% of the content used to build the vehicle is local.
Now the latest news coming in is about the 7-seater version of the vehicle, on which Ford Brazil is working, but we are not sure it would come to India or not, as in India the company will launch the sub-4 metre version, while Brazilian Ford is planning to make the already 4.34 metres' lengthy EcoSport 10cm bigger to fit two additional seats. And if it happens in India, the price of the vehicle would go very high as it won't be able to get the excise duty benefits that it currently avails being a sub 4-metre vehicle.
Going 10cm longer, Ford EcoSport would look more elongated than the existing version, however the wheelbase and doors are to remain unchanged. The 7-seater Ford EcoSport should come to the market by 2015, possibly with a new engine Sigma Flex 1.5 16V. Stay tuned to CarDekho for more updates on the same. Cheers!
