Renault’s Duster has been a massive hit for the French automaker. The Duster is sold in India under the Renault badge rather than Dacia that is sold globally. It has a long queue of buyers waiting to procure this SUV. There has been a rise in demand for UVs in the Indian market and this is why most of the manufacturers are now preparing to introduce a compact SUV. It is the styling that has appealed to the masses, and many have either bought or booked one Renault Duster.
Renault has played it well, as the Duster does have an upper-hand on being one of the first to enter this segment, as at the moment it doesn’t have any competition. The Duster’s chrome-filled front grille is also highly attractive and liked by many. It comes with two engine options in the diesel while there is one on the offering in the petrol. The 1.6-litre petrol produces 103bhp, while the diesel is available with two different power ratings (85bhp and 108bhp). The diesel is the most commonly sold version, and now the top-of-the-line trim RxZ gets a touchscreen system, adding more features to the Duster.
The Duster has decent space in both its rows and has a large boot as well, however what has really attracted people towards it is its muscular styling. The flared wheel arches and the chrome front grille add to the styling of the Duster. The SUV that has created an equivalent buzz is the Ford Ecosport. Ford has recently began its online campaign on the Ecosport and the company has been burning the midnight oil to localise maximum spares of the SUV.
The Ecosport is also stylish, but has a more of a trendy look. It will appeal more to the youth and it comes loaded with tech-savy feactures. The company is introducing the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that churns out 122bhp and they are confident that this will change the opinion of car buyers on petrol engine as it is not just good in performance but is also cost-effective.
The Ecosport is also less than 4-metres in length, which means it will have a price advantage over the Duster. The quality on the Ecosport is also better and at the same time, it gets more rear seat space and better flexibility. Ford has done its homework well, by localizing about 85% of the parts on this SUV and the child parts will help the American autogiant to reduce the maintenance cost too.
The other engine on the offering is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 90bhp of power and currently powers the Fiesta. The Ecosport will be sub 4-metre and even the engines on the offer, so it will get a duty cut that will make it cheaper than the Duster just on taxes, without even considering the pricing of the vehicle. So, Ford is confident of the product. However, the wait for Ecosport is a bit longer as it is likely to come in the market by June. The Ecosport also gets keyless entry, push start button, sync, and more importantly this new 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine that could change the complete game for Ford. All is now dependent on the pricing of this compact SUV. Both of them are winners, all depends on persona of the buyers.
