A recent piece of information tells us that Hyundai India might bring the new Hyundai Sonata to the 2012 Auto Expo at New Delhi. Globally known as Hyundai i45, the revamped premium segment sedan will carry the Hyundai’s charming ’Fluidic’ design to make up for the majority of the facelift. Quite obviously we can look forward to a good amount of changes in the interiors of the car for a fresher overall appeal. What’s more, Hyundai India might consider some increased amount of localisation for the new Hyundai Sonata which will in turn help the auto major in getting the Hyundai Sonata price under check at around Rs 20 lakh. Let us see what could be the engine options available for Hyundai for the all new Hyundai Sonata in India.

It is highly speculated that there could be a major change this time in the engine department. As mentioned the global Hyundai i45 is offered with two options in the gasoline engine itself, a 2.0 VTVT petrol engine and another 2.4 L direct injection petrol motor. Demand for the diesel cars in India is not unknown and who else can know it better than the country’s second largest car manufacturer in the county. So, Hyundai India might use an R-diesel engine straight out of the Hyundai Santa Fe which produces a 180 Bhp peak power and 392 Nm peak torque.

All the same, Hyundai could as well retain the petrol and diesel engines offered in the India bound Hyundai Sonata Transform which is thoroughly equipped with a 2.4 L VTVT petrol engine and a 2.0 L CRDi engine to settle down with just the exterior and interior makeover endowing the car with the much in demand ‘Fluidic ‘ design . In any case, all Hyundai would want at this moment is to turn around the sales of the Hyundai Sonata which had just managed to garner lukewarm sales until now. With the new Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai India will have four new cars up its sleeve for the Indian Auto Expo, the Hyundai Veloster, new Hyundai i10, new Hyundai i20 and an all new concept SUV from the auto major.
