Speculations are high that the Jaguar XF 2.2D could be launched in India by Tata-JLR. In comparison to the BMW 5 series and Mercedes Benz E Class, the Jaguar XF 2.2D could be more expensive in India. The reason behind this is that Jaguar cars come to India through the CBU route which burns the pocket by high import duty of 30 percent. It is believed that the Jaguar could take a convenient step of assembling the Jaguar XF in India which may result in decreasing the import duty from 30 percent to 10 percent.

Presently India has a assembling unit by JLR for the Land Rover Freelander 2. This unit may be shared for the purpose of assembling Jaguar XF 2.2D. This local assembling unit may lead to cost reduction and the Jaguar XF 2.2D will prove to be threat to its home grown rivals Mercedes Benz E250 CDI and the BMW 520d.

The Jaguar XF has a ultra frugal 2.2 litre, four cylinder, 188 bhp diesel engine with a superb mileage of 18.75 km/litre. The engine configuration is similar to the Freelander 2 and an added feature of 8-speed ZF automatic with power supply to the rear wheels. The diesel engine will increase the demand of Jaguar XF 2.2D in India as the diesel engine will enhance the fuel efficiency and even shall be less costly.
