Leaked 2021 SsangYong Rexton Previews Mahindra Alturas G4 Facelift

The Ssangyong Rexton, whose last generation model was sold in India, is now sold as a rebadged Mahindra Alturas G4 in Indian markets

Mahindra’s Alturas G4 could soon see its facelift appear on Indian shores, after images of the updated 2021 SsangYong Rexton surfaced online. Mahindra Alturas G4 sold in India is a rebadged second-gen SsangYong Rexton with minor tweaks to the grille and Mahindra badges. The facelift looks like a comprehensive update over the Alturas G4/Rexton, which was launched in India late in 2018.

The model is sold as a Ssangyong Rexton in global markets and was due an update, having been first launched in 2017. Ssangyong has made quite a few changes, with the front-end of the SUV seeing a full revision. The headlamps look like quad LED-projector units and the big grille has become even bigger, featuring a chrome-plated quadrilatic pattern that gives it an upmarket look.

At the rear too, Ssangyong has made some changes, with a new LED lighting pattern, a redesigned bumper and the Rexton logo being moved to the top half of the bootlid. The SUV looks similar to the current model when you look at it in profile. The interior can now be seen featuring a new redesigned steering wheel and a fully digital instrument cluster. It will also get Level 1 autonomous tech like autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist.

This update will be more comprehensive even, with Ssangyong looking to update the internals of the Rexton as well. According to reports, the 2.2-litre diesel engine now makes 202PS, a 15 PS increase from before. It's 7-speed Mercedes-soured automatic transmission has been replaced by an 8-speed automatic transmission too. 

We expect this newly updated Rexton to come to India in the form of Mahindra Alturas G4, sometime late in 2021. And at that point, it will continue to rival the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the MG Gloster. We expect Mahindra to bring it through the CKD route as the pre-facelift Alturas G4 and price it around the Rs 30 lakh mark.
