Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Pvt Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of the leading Indian utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra has finally launched the e2o(ee two oh) in Delhi today at a price of Rs 5.96 lakh (on road, Delhi). The Mahindra e2o is archetype of Mahindra Group's vision of the 'Future of Mobility' for a sustainable tomorrow. The vehicle was unveiled at the Indian auto expo as Reva NXR in January 2012. The car has come out in six exciting colours- arctic silver, coral blue, eco green, ocean white, Spanish red and sunfire yellow.
In an explanation why the car has been name e2o, the company has said in a statement on its website that “the ‘e’ in Mahindra e2o stands for the Energy of the Sun, which is abundant and clean. The ‘2’ pronounced as ‘to’ signifies the connected technologies in the car, while ‘o’, represents ‘Oxygen’, the life force that sustains all of our existence on Planet Earth.”
The Electric Car Mahindra e2o is the very first product to have been assembled at the company's state of the art facility based in Banglore. Built on the futuristic ecoystem of Sun2Car, the e2o derives its power from a 48-volt, 29kw electric motor, belts out a maximum power output of 39.4bhp and 53Nm of peak torque, promising to offer the running cost around 40-50 paise/km, while protecting and preserving the environment. The car impresses with its top-speed as well, it's 81kmph, which proves the e2o to be a good car for city driving.
The car has used next generation Lithium Ion batteries and will have a range of 100 kms on a full charge, which is suitable for most urban commuters today. The e2o will enable users to carry out self fuelling through any 15 amp plug point at home or at their workplace. This can be further augmented with the help of Sun2Car solar technology. The company that already has Reva i in its portfolio, is expecting to change the people's mindset with its first four-seater car, which has more space, power and better looks than its sibling.
Although, there is no competitor as such for Reva E2O, the upcoming Nissan leaf could emerge as a potential threat, which is again an electric concept. Since the car has been launched in the growing B hatchback segment, so it would also compete against the likes of Hyundai i10, Maruti Ritz, Swift and others.
