Maruti Suzuki is all set to roll out its compact MPV Ertiga on 11th April 2012. This compact seven-seater multi-purpose MPV was unveiled at the 11th Auto Expo held in New Delhi by the largest car-maker of the country.Maruti Suzuki is waiting for the Union-Budget 2012-13 which will be presented on 16th March, in order to decide the price of this new car.The company’s decision on the number of petrol and diesel variants to be launched is pending since an additional tax is anticipated to be announced on diesel cars in India. Maruti Suzuki Omni and Eeco have already made a mark in the lower and middle segments.

With the launch of Maruti Ertiga MPV, Maruti Suzuki is all set to enter the compact MPV segment in India. The market for C segment MPVs lack competition since at present there is only Mahindra Xylo in this segment. For Ertiga, Maruti plans the sales at around 5,000 units a month. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is being manufactured at Maruti Suzuki India’s plant in Gurgaon. The company will introduce for the first time K-14 VVT 1.4 liter engine in India with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

The diesel variant of Ertiga powered with 1.3 liter DDiS Super Turbo engine is said to provide a fuel efficiency of 20.77 kmpl. As per company’s estimates, 14 percent of the Indian auto industry accounts for the utility vehicles out of which 66 percent share is bagged by the multi-purpose vehicles (MPV). February 2012 saw a jump of 6.02% in the overall sales of Maruti as compared to February 2011 with 107,653 units in February 2012 as compared to 101,543 units last year in the same period.
