Mercede's wants to regain top position in India car market

German car marque, Mercedes-Benz wants it position back in Indian car market and to achieve its intended target that is top rank in the premium luxury car segment, it has an array of plans. Last year we led India's luxury car segment with a 46 percent market share. This year it is some what behind BMW, but hope to gain momentum in the coming days, Wilfried Aulbur, managing director and chief executive of Mercedes-Benz India said.

Mercedes-Benz already has a remarkable market in Punjab for its cars. Its dealerships in Chandigarh and Ludhiana have been added with some more recently. Another dealership in the region has been opened due to huge demand for luxury cars in Punjab. According to the official figures, Mercedes-Benz sales in Punjab rose to 48 percent to 300 in 2008 from 202 cars in 2007.

Mercedes-Benz launched its refurbished model of Mercedes-Benz E-class in India and according to Aulbur, the company has not decided anything so far about launching its A-class model in India. He said that the decision will be taken soon. Currently in India, it faces stiff competition from BMW that now leads the segment with its latest product range in the country. The company also faces stiff competition from new bies like Jaguar and Audi that are here to share the market space.
