India was MINI’s 100th car market and the brand was introduced last year. To begin with the proceedings, the company introduced its range as a complete body unit. This meant, that the cost of the vehicle was higher and for this reason the company opened dealerships only in Delhi and Mumbai.
Now, the company is expanding its dealership network and also introducing diesel engine option across its range. To reduce the price of the MINI, the knocked down versions are being imported. The assembly of the MINI has just began in BMW’s Chennai plant and the company will soon add more dealerships in the near future. At the moment, the MINI Cooper, Cooper S, Countryman and the Convertible are on sale.
The current MINI dealers are also BMW dealers and the German manufacturer will mostly make its other dealers as MINI dealers. The German brand also owns Rolls-Royce, however it is keeping RR dealers away from the BMW and MINI dealers.
