The new Toyota Camry made its global debut in July 2017 and it will finally be launched in India tomorrow. The premium sedan from the Japanese carmaker is bigger than before, has updated looks and is expected to continue with a hybrid powertrain, just like the outgoing model.
Toyota has made the tenth-generation Camry bigger as it is based on their new TNGA-K platform which underpins other models too like the Lexus ES. Thus it is 35mm longer, 15mm wider, 35mm lower and has a wheelbase that is 50mm longer than the outgoing model. The powertrain uses an updated iteration of the 2.5-litre petrol engine which now produces 176PS of power and 221Nm of torque, while the electric motor makes 118PS.
It’s going to be safer as well, thanks to the addition of nine airbags and a host of active safety systems like brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, park assist, hill start assist and of course ABS with EBD.
Since the Camry Hybrid is Toyota’s flagship sedan offering in India, it will be packed with features like memory function for driver’s seat, rear armrest with a capacitive touchscreen, three-zone climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and cruise control. It will also offer wireless charging for smartphones and a 9-speaker JBL Dolby audio system.
The outgoing Camry retailed at a price of Rs 37.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and we expect the new one to be similarly priced. Once launched, the new Camry will resume its rivalry with the likes of the Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat and Honda Accord Hybrid.
