Tata Nano so far enjoys the status of being the cheapest car in the world and now Nissan is planning to give a tough competition to it very soon. Speculations suggest that Nissan is planning to come up with a reasonably priced car for India that would fall into the category of sub-Rs. 3 lakh. According to a report, the executive VP of Nissan, Mr. Andy Palmer mentioned that the company will surely look into the plan of an affordable car in near future.
However, there are so many sub-segments and Nissan most probably will develop a car that comes under Rs. 3 lakh category. Nissan India sure has highly qualified engineers at their manufacturing plant in Chennai that it shares with Renault. It is being said that Nissan will price its new car in above Rs. 2 lakh category, which means that Tata Nano will still continue to be the lowest small car in the world. Nissan India would be placing its reasonable car along with Maruti Alto, which is one of the most successful car models by Maruti Suzuki.
Currently, Maruti manages to sell about 20,000 units of Maruti Alto monthly, which is a very impressive figure altogether. Joining the bandwagon is Hyundai Eon that is bit more premium than Maruti Alto. Looking from Nissan’s perspective, the affordable car will be decisive in gathering volumes in the country. Above and beyond Nissan, rumor has it that Renault is also working on a pocket friendly car in similar price range.
