Nissan India, which is all set for the launch of its much awaited Micra model next week, has also believed to be initiated the ground work for its upcoming joint venture small car with Ashok Leyland. According to some industry reports the prospective small car is still in the concept stage and the company is reportedly talking to the Maruti Alto owners so that the basic requirements of the Indian buyers can be pin pointed. The Maruti Alto is the best selling car in India and clocks about 25,000 units every month.
According to reports, Nissan India has been sending small teams to the owners of the Maruti Alto for collecting their experience with Alto along with the improvements the Alto owners wants in their car. The collected feedback will then be analyzed and used in the development of this new small car. After its launch in the Indian market the new Nissan small car will be competing with the popular small cars in India besides Alto like Tata Indica, Hyundai Santro.
The Maruti Alto model was launched in India as a substitute to the one of the most popular model of that time Maruti 800. In last few year, Alto has completely replaced 800 from its top position in the Indian market. The monthly sales of 800 has been reduced to mere 2,500 units.
