Government has no control over car price hike! Yes, the officials said that if there is any tax-payers' money involved, the government will monitor that otherwise not. A senior government official said on Tuesday that government was worried about the car price hike despite of stimulus packages and falling demand. On the other hand, the government gave incentives to the car markers-by excise duty. Additional Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industries Surajit Mitra said on the sidelines of a FICCI seminar on the Indian automobile industry here that they did not do the micro-management of price control. It is market driven and up to the car makers. Asked if the government would monitor automobile prices as commodities prices, specially that of steel, has come down, Mitra said: We do not do the micro-management of price control. It is market driven and up to the car makers. However, he claimed that owing to increasing commodity prices the car price hike was not high.
