The French car maker Renault's Indian subsidiary has expanded its presence in the country with the launch of a new 50,000 sq. fee warehouse in the automotive hub of Talegaon MIDC, Pune. The warehouse is part of the International Parts Center (IPC) network, which enables Renault to source and consolidate vehicle parts in large volumes from local suppliers. These parts are then used for manufacturing by the Alliance Overseas Manufacturing plants globally.

“The IPC in Pune is an integral part of Renault India’s efforts towards providing customers across the globe with competitive parts, said Marc Nassif, Managing Director, Renault India Pvt. Ltd. “With the IPC, we can leverage not just the presence of competitive suppliers in India, but also benefit from savings through volume consolidation – a strategy that enables localization and affordability, while also leveraging the high standards of quality offered by our supply partners in the country.”

Established in 2007, the IPC in Pune is part of a network of 20 Alliance International Logistics Centers worldwide set up to ensure cost-competitive supply chain management and has been an extremely successful platform for Renault India’s export of parts. In 2012, the IPC processed the export of over 60,000 m³ of parts, amounting to above Rs. 400 Crores.

“As an indication of Renault’s growing presence in India as well as our strengthening relationships with suppliers in the country, the IPC has seen exponential growth in parts turnover since its establishment –– from just 10,000 m³ in 2008 to a projected 75,000 m³ in 2013,” said Jean-Paul Charraut, in Charge of Renault India SCM Operation. “The new warehouse being inaugurated today will help us expand IPC’s capacity and cater to the increasing volume demand from our worldwide plant customers.”

Reiterating Commitment to India

The new warehouse is also another milestone for Renault’s growing footprint in India. Renault India’s presence across the nation includes a network of over 100 dealerships set up in just 18 months as well as the Renault Design India in Mumbai that designs vehicles and accessories specifically adapted to the Indian market. Moreover, as part of the Alliance, Renault vehicles are produced at the Renault-Nissan manufacturing facility at Oragadam and the Renault-Nissan Technology and Business Centre India provides support functions such Purchasing, Technology and Engineering.

Renault India has also seen tremendous success in the Indian market, seeing a nine-fold year-on-year increase in sales in February and sweeping a number of customer and industry expert awards, including the Car of the Year for the Renault Duster, recognition for the Scala and Pulse as well as the title of Manufacturer of the Year. Renault India also exports the Duster to right-hand drive markets such as the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“Renault’s focus on India as a key domestic market as well as an export hub has been the cornerstone of our commitment to the country,” said Marc Nassif. “The inauguration of the new warehouse today along with the IPC’s success in providing affordable and quality parts for plants across the globe is yet another milestone in Renault’s journey in India, with the country already among Renault’s top 10 markets globally.”
