Renault-Nissan venture to commence production of compact car

Renault Nissan Automobile India, a joint venture between Japanese Nissan Motor Co and French Renault, is all set to commence commercial production of a compact car. Akira Sakurai chief executive and managing director at the launch of Nissan Motor dealership commented that the result of the first production trial was good. They would start rolling out the cars in May. More than 30 units were produced in the first trial and the trial production of power train is on.
At present the company has 97 vendors and the staff strength at the plant would be increased from 1,000 to 1,500 by May. Currently it has 23 dealers across India and plans to increase the number to 30 by the end of this year and up to 55 by 2012. Sakurai comment on its joint venture with Ashok Leyland to make light commercial vehicles that there were discussions to zero-in on the type of vehicle to be manufactured. Kiminobu Tokuyama, managing director of Nissan Motor India that markets Nissan vehicles in the country said that the company would be exporting cars made in India by the end of this year.
