Racing fans in New Delhi got up close and personal with Red Bull Racing Can for the first time ever at Indian Institute of Technology on Saturday. Bringing out the best in engineering and design enthusiasts, participants used Red Bull cans powered by radio-controlled motors to build the city’s fastest can on wheels. With a time of 2.32.51 mins, Street Hawk from IIT Delhi comprising of Harshit Jain and Anshul Kapoor will go on to represent New Delhi in the national finals which will be held in the city on October 1, 2011. Rounding off the top podium positions were Razor from Bhagat Singh college and Blackhawks from IP University.

Facing off against winners from Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, Street Hawk will battle it out for the title of fastest can in the country and go on to participate against 24 other nations at the Red Bull Racing Can World Final in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom. The city winners will also have an opportunity to meet with the Red Bull Racing team drivers at the India Grand Prix in October this year.

Budding engineers were given the opportunity to show-off their talent as they displayed some of the most innovatively kitted cars to auto and F1 fans. In the weeks before the city finals, the participants worked on their machines demonstrating F1 style precision and tuning the tiny engines to create a car that made a difference! While many a fan has seen aerodynamics play a big role in the RB7 on track, the Red Bull cans gave the designers a competitive advantage as they styled their Racing Can’s body to gain an aerodynamic edge making this a thrilling competition all the way to the chequered flag. The challenge was not only to be the first to cross the finish line but the racing cans with cool designs and steady machines also earned points.

While the teams were sweating it out on the set course, hundreds of fellow students and enthusiasts, gathered around to cheer their favorites. These foot-long racing cans offered the crowd a rush of adrenaline, fiery speed and an excuse to come together to watch a friendly competition. It was an event unique in its own way, where youngsters got to experience what goes into designing and racing a radio controlled car. With sportsmanship and camaraderie ruling the event, like every Red Bull competition, participants were once again pushing boundaries to emerge champions.
