Tata in no hurry to launch Merlin SUV

Tata Merlin launch is not in September, as speculated earlier since the SUV is still seen testing on roads near its plant in Pune. The news must have given some relief to Mahindra XUV 500 which is all set to be launched on September 28, 2011 and which could have faced a competition from Tata Merlin due to its low costing. It is likely that Tata Merlin price will settle down at Rs 10 lakh. Earlier it was predicted that Tata Motors will launch Tata Merlin will come a day before or after the Mahindra XUV500 to intensify the war of the SUVs.

Tata Motors is in no hurry to launch Tata Merlin and wants to complete all technical formalities and checks and ensure that the Tata Merlin is fit to be launched. That is why they are not launching Tata Merlin in the last week of this month. Regarding the Tata Merlin specifications, the SUV is equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels, new steering system, improved gearbox, and many new features borrowed from the Tata Aria which render its platform to Tata Merlin. A 2.2-liter DICOR engine that could produce high power and torque outputs is affixed in Tata Merlin.
