Looks like Tata Motors might use the name Safari Storm for the Tata Merlin we are used to until now. It is the same Tata Merlin we are talking about which the auto major has decided to launch in India giving it another name and complete makeover from inside out. A possibility of adopting a new name for the SUV came when the new Tata SUV is being shooted for a commercial in Pune. A major part of the deviation lies with the exteriors and the interiors of the Tata Safari Storm in favour of classier and more upmarket look against the slightly outdated and shabby looks of the Tata’s flagship, Safari SUV.

The alterations are so prominent along the headlamp designs and the grille, where a consumer at a glance might fail to observe any similarity in the two SUVs. The interiors adorn wooden inserts and are quite spruced up to give a neat and clean look. Though the steering mounted audio controls are missing on the SUV which are most commonly found in almost all the latest entrants in the segment, the SUV fares up well in the overall driving and handling aspects of the car. However, it is the same Safari’s 2.2 L DICOR engine under the hood to churn out the 140 Bhp and 320 Nm peak power and torque numbers.

But, the 5-speed manual transmission gearbox is where the difference might be observed to see a better side. If only Tata Motors gets the Tata Safari Storm price right, there is absolutely no need to think twice about its imminent success. The closest competitors, Force One and Mahindra XUV500 better get ready for the upcoming competition now more than ever because Force Motors might bring two more variants of their only passenger car and Mahindra will be soon lifting the barricades to reopen the bookings for XUV 500.
