Tata Motors has unveiled the Tiago based compact sedan (now called the Tata Tigor) at the 2016 Auto Expo, recently. The vehicle is expected to be launched later this year at an aggressive price point since it will sit below the Zest in the lineup. Technically it will replace the Indigo eCS, country’s first compact sedan.
Design
It is the best executed compact sedan compared to the rest, present in the market. It has almost no boot, the coupe-like roofline has somehow subsided the odd boot design that these sub-4m sedans have. The subtle integrated spoiler features LED brake lamp, which runs between its entire length. We wish that Tata keeps it into production! The headlamp feature projectors, while the grille is finished in glossy black similar to that of Tiago.
Engines
The Kite 5 will feature new diesel and petrol engine, which Tata had already debuted with Tiago. Diesel will be the 1.05-litre Revotorq 3-cylinder diesel. Revotorq is a new family of diesel engines - debuted by Tata Motors with the new Tiago. The diesel engine produces 70 PS @ 4000 rpm and a max torque of 140 Nm in-between 1800-3000 rpm. Petrol, on the other hand, is the new 1.2-litre naturally aspirated motor, second in the Revotron family, which was debuted by Zest. The petrol motor generates 85 PS @ 6000 rpm and 114 Nm @ 3500 rpm. Both the engines will come standard with a 5-Speed MT, while it is expected that it will also offer AMT automatic option.
Features and Safety
In terms of safety, Kite 5 will offer dual front airbags along with ABS and EBS plus CSC (Corner Stability Control). Coming to the features, Kite 5 will have similar features and cabin like its twin hatchback, Tiago. It will also have, 8-speaker Harman system with a touchscreen infotainment system (touchscreen is not present in Tiago). It is also expected to share Tiago's Juke App connectivity.
