Toyota Innova Hycross Petrol And Hybrid Engine Specs Detailed!

The new Innova will get a strong-hybrid petrol engine while giving a pass to the diesel powertrain altogether

Update (25/11/2022): Toyota has unveiled the Innova Hycross in India. Bookings for the MPV are now underway, while its prices are likely to be revealed at the 2023 Auto Expo.

• The Innova Hycross will use the Corolla’s 2-litre petrol and strong-hybrid power units. 

• The hybrid engine is rated at 194PS on the Corolla and comes paired with an e-CVT. 

• The 2-litre non-hybrid petrol is tuned to deliver 170PS and 202Nm. 

• Will be sold alongside the Innnova Crysta; expected to cost from around Rs 20 lakh. 

The new generation Toyota Innova, the ‘Innova Hycross’, is all set for market debut in November. The new version of the MPV will come without the option of a diesel powertrain, a first for the Innova nameplate. Instead, it will come with a petrol as well as a strong hybrid power unit. 

The new Innova Hycross will use a 2-litre petrol engine, similar to the latest Corolla, Corolla Cross SUV and the Voxy Van, the latter being already on sale in Indonesia. The engine in question can be had in hybrid and non-hybrid versions. The regular petrol version (on the Voxy and Corolla Cross) is rated at 170PS and 202Nm, while the hybrid version claims to offer 194PS.

We’re expecting the base variants of the Hycross to get the naturally-aspirated engine without the electric assist, while the hybrid with an e-CVT to be an option on the higher-end variants, as is the case with the Hyryder SUV. The non-hybrid variants will likely get a CVT as standard, without any manual gearbox option. It will be a front-wheel drive car, which is another first for the Innova nameplate. 

Other than the powertrain upgrades, the Innova Hycross will be a completely new model, built from the ground up. It will sit on a new monocoque chassis, replacing the ladder frame which has thus far been used to build the MPV. It will further sport a completely new design inside and out with many more features including a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera.

The Innova Hycross will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta. We’re expecting the new generation MPV to carry a starting price tag of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
