The significantly updated Toyota Innova MPV is due to be unveiled in November. Named the Innova Hycross, it has been officially teased for the first time in Indonesia, showing its new front end design.
The shape of the MPV’s nose seems more taller and more upright than that of the current model, but it is recognisable as a Toyota Innova. It has a large grille finished in black (likely to get a chrome finish in its India-spec), flanked by new dual LED headlamps. The fog lamp housings in each corner of the front bumper are designed to look like sporty air vents. Overall, it seems that the Hycross features a more modern and aggressive styling.
The bigger update for the Hycross is under its skin as it will be based on a monocoque platform rather than a ladder-on-frame build. It will be a front-wheel drive MPV powered by a new strong hybrid powertrain, likely featuring a 2-litre petrol engine and producing 190PS. Toyota will not be offering a diesel option for the new Innova Hycross, but a regular petrol-only powertrain might be available as the affordable entry-level model.
Toyota will be introducing the new Innova Hycross in India soon after its Indonesian debut. It has been spied testing on our roads numerous times and will stay on sale alongside the current-gen Innova Crysta. The latest iteration of the MPV with the hybrid powertrain will likely be priced from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), and maintain its market position as a premium alternative to the likes of the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo.
