On November 5, 2015, Standing Committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation passed the proposal to revise the one time parking charges, which are applied on cars and are added in the registration fees of vehicles. As a result, the overall cost of vehicles will be increased upto Rs. 6 lac. Also, auto rickshaw, e-rickshaw, two wheelers and taxis are exempted from this one time parking charge. The charges were earlier revised in 2004 and are claimed to be revised to generate revenue and address the concerns regarding pollution.
The commercial vehicles will be costlier by Rs 9500 to Rs 36000 whereas the non commercial vehicles will face a price hike ranging from Rs 6,000 to Rs 6 lac. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has also passed the proposal saying that e-rickshaw and e-carts will be exempted from this charge but they, along with East Delhi Municipal Corporation are yet to decide the revision of one time parking charge on commercial/ non-commercial vehicles.

Municipal Corporations receive 95% of this fees. Mohan Bhardwaj, Chairman of NDMC Standing Committee said that this move is aimed at generating revenue and addressing the concerns regarding pollution due to growing number of vehicles in the city.
Although, Mukesh Goel, Leader of Opposition and party councilor in the NDMC House called it a "tax burden" while opposing this move, the revision nevertheless came into effect. He added "We strongly oppose the proposal for increasing one time parking charge as it will be a financial burden on the people and add to price rise due to increased cost of commercial vehicles,"
