Volkswagen eyes at top end segment

After the end of FY 2010-11 with record sales volume, Volkswagen India is all set to mark its presence in the high-end passenger cars segment while upholding its share in the volume segment.

Neeraj Garg, director – Volkswagen passenger car, Volkswagen Group Sales India, said that they started the journey with the launch of Volkswagen Passat in the high-end segment, and later they released Volkswgen Jetta before entering the volume segment. Furthermore he said that the aim is to cover all car segments present in Indian car market while maintaining the strong hold in the high-end segment with increased volume.

It should be noted that just a year ago there were only two models - Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat and the German carmaker didn’t have any entry in the compact and sedan segments. But with the release of high-end segment car Phaeton in April 2010, the company made the presence felt among high-end segment cars. Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Polo and the famous Volkswagen Beetle.

Neeraj Garg also said that currently Volkswagen has presence in every category with its fleet of cars and now they are offering no less than seven models across the Indian car market. Furthermore he said that the company will launch more models after thorough market study.

When asked about the idea behind using high pricing for Volkswagen cars, Garg said that the pricing criteria depends on segments as the customer profile differs in each segment. And even after pricing being a key element in volume segments, customers pay little concern on the issue when it comes to upper segment cars. He also said that the new Jetta will be released in the second half of this year.
