After spying of 2016 Innova a couple of days ago, here comes the initial spy shots of the next-generation Toyota Fortuner caught testing near the Toyota facility in India and in Thailand. The SUV will be an entirely new offering and will be based on the Toyota's New-Global-Architecture (TNGA) that will also underpin the new Innova. Both the vehicles will stick to the rugged ladder frame construction instead of a monocoque for the added rigidity.
What to expect from the 2016 Toyota Fortuner
- Just like Innova, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be slightly roomier compared to the current model.
- Speaking of the design, the Fortuner receives radical changes to its exterior design. Though the details are foggy at the moment but the camouflaged test mule reveals that the rear quarter window line is slightly step-up giving the SUV a beefy appeal!
- Externally, goodies like projector headlamps will be retained while expect the 'In things' nowadays day-time-running-LEDs and diamond cut alloys in the upcoming Fortuner and maybe in Innova too.
- Mechanically, the 3.0 liter D-4D turbo diesel motor of the current Fortuner is likely to receive a power upgradation. Or it may get a new diesel engine as it is highly expected that the Innova is receiving one. The SUV will continue to offer both manual and automatic transmission. The AT might receive a new unit though.
- On the inside, the Fortuner will get a revamped dash and is likely to share bits and pieces with the new Innova, just like they do presently. Expect a new infotainment system and few more added goodies.
- By 2016, the new Fortuner would be competing with Hyundai Santa-Fe, next-gen Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Captiva.
