Which is India's No.1 selling car for 9 years in a row and world's No.1 selling small car of 2013? Yes, you got it right, it's none other than the Maruti Suzuki Alto. The MSI is celebrating ALTO as India's # 1 with 25,00,000 ALTOs on the road. Alto was launched in year 2000 and it proved to be a runaway success for the manufacturer following the foot prints of the iconic 800. In 2010 company introduced a powerful version of the Alto with subtle facelift and a brilliant K10 petrol power-plant. Later in 2012 company introduced Tata Nano rival Alto 800 thus discontinuing the original Alto. Every month, the Alto brand sells in between 15-20k units. The company is offering assured gift on the Alto test drive and you can also win 25 bumper prizes. Current cars under the Alto brand are Alto K10 and Alto 800.

Maruti 800 was able to bring a smile on several Indian families and Alto just carried over the same tradition for newer generations. Alto K10 takes on the A segment while the Alto 800 steps in the shoes of the discontinued Maruti 800 to take on its arch rival Tata Nano. Alto 800 was introduced in 2012 and it features safety features like driver airbag optional in top of the line VXI – missing in its segment. The car features radical alterations in design and is powered by bettered version of the companies 796cc engine gathering 47.3bhp and 69Nm of peak torque.

Though Alto K10 adores the design of the original Alto but MSI had done an excellent job in uplifting the decade old design. Broader grille, large air dams, sporty fog lamp housing and the new head and tail light detailing compliments lil' hatch's blistering performance figures – 0-100kmph in 13.3 seconds. The K10 makes the A2 and some B segments hatches to run for their money when it comes to on road performance; the car boosts awesome power-to-weight ratio churning out 67bhp with overall weight of just 760 kilos!

The K10 is a gem, 998cc petrol motor incorporated with advance techy's on board like all aluminum construction, distributor less ignition, rocker arm-less double-over-head camshaft and drive by wire. The 3 pot motor generates 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500rpm. The ARAI certified mileage figure of Alto K10 is 20.92kmpl. The company is also planning to incorporate Alto K10 with automated-manual transmission (AMT) which has debuted in the country in their Celerio. AMT will definitely help the Alto brand to reach new milestones in future. Kudos to MSI!
