Round 3 of the highest level of Indian Karting moved to Coimbatore at the Kari Motor Speedway. The circuit witnessed some exciting action in all categories of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Karting Championship. It was a sterling performance by Rayo Racing’s Ameya Bafna which stood out the most in the Senior Category. He dominated throughout after qualifying on pole. He went on to win the Pre-finals ahead of Raj Ganatra & Gaurav Davare to make it 1-2-3 for Rayo Racing.
Ameya started on pole for the final & soon opened up a big lead on his team mates. Rayo Racing continued to remain 1-2-3 before Kolhapur’s – Chittesh Mandody of Mohite Racing charged up the field from behind. He overtook Raj on the penultimate lap. Ameya was however untouchable & he comfortably won the race. Championship leader - Anshuman Chatterjee of Rayo Racing finished 6th to hold on to the Championship lead by a mere 2 points ahead of Raj Ganatra.
Bangalore driver Kush Maini, set the pace initially in the Juniors. An unfortunate engine failure in the pre-final meant he had to start last for the final. Krishna Mahadik from Kolhapur of Mohite Racing, started on pole & made no mistakes to win comfortably. Kush from Maini Racing climbed up the order to bag 2nd spot. Arya Gandhi from Rayo Racing drove a superb race to hold off other drivers to finish 3rd. Akash Gowda of Meco Racing & Nayan Chatterjee of Rayo Racing came in 4th & 5th respectively.
The micro max was dominated by Pradyumn Danigond of Mohite Racing, followed by Mira Erda of Maini Racing. HB Phaneesh also from Mohite Racing came in 3rd spot. Ameya a student of Lala Lajpat Rai College, Mumbai said after the race “I was quick all weekend & in the final I managed to open out a good lead.
I knew the 2nd place driver was closing in, but it was only because I had backed off the pace. I was a bit unlucky in the first 2 rounds of the season, but I have finally won in the 3rd round. I am looking forward to the last 2 rounds now” The senior championship is extremely close with 5 drivers separated by just 9 points. Out of these, 4 drivers are from Rayo Racing.
The winners of the overall Senior & Junior Categories of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Karting Championship will go on to represent India in the World Rotax Finals later this year.
