Auto Expo 2012: Ford to invest $142 mn for a new SUV in India

Ford India is just on the brink of making a global announcement on its latest breakthrough in compact SUV segment with Ford EcoSport. And Ford India already seems to have a clear picture in front of it where the America-based auto major is ready to invest a huge sum to develop a new compact SUV along the same lines. Not long before during this electrifying environment right before the Auto Expo, Ford India made a dramatic announcement to invest $142 million to develop a new compact SUV meant for international markets at the company’s domestic manufacturing plant in Chennai.

Ford India president, Micheal Boneham was all smiles when he made this good news public at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi today. On another front, Ford Motors is all geared up to hold a global meet today to share the details of the Ford EcoSport compact SUVwith the Ford car fans across the world. All the same, Ford Motors intend to bring the new compact SUV for a display at the Indian Auto Expo, which will kickstart from tomorrow, January 5th.  Among the plethora of new car launches, the compact Ford EcoSport will be one exciting new model where the consumers are eagerly waiting to feast their eyes upon the new Ford SUV.

The anticipation is all for the new EcoBoost engine that is expected to power the compact SUV to show some extraordinary fuel efficiency and performance while the diesel option will inevitably make its way into the Ford EcoSport with a Fiesta’s 1.5 L diesel powertrain for the diesel car lovers. Ford India on an overall had witnessed a tremendous growth of 15% in the country with 100,000 units sale in the year 2011 despite the slow domestic car market.
