The growth momentum, which started gaining ground in the Indian auto industry in the starting of this year, does not seem to be slowing down. Its the sixth consecutive month of this year when the industry registered a considerably high growth, thanks to the launch of a series of new cars in India which boosted the demand for cars in India.

Tata Motors has emerged as the fastest growing car maker in the country with registering a 63% jump in passenger car sales in June. The company has replaced Hyundai Motors as the second-largest car maker in the country. The cumulative sales figures (including exports) for Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in June 2010 stood at 67,730 , registering a growth of 49% over 45,440 vehicles sold in June 2009.

While the country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki performed below expectation with registering a mere 18% growth during June 2010, company's exports increased by 15% during the period.

Hyundai Motors, which had witnessed a complete production halt  for a few days at its Chennai facility due to the workers strike, posted a 19% increase in its domestic sales. Company's exports from India dipped to 18,888 cars (about 22%) during the period. According to Mr Arvind Saxena, director (marketing & sales) at Hyundai Motors, the domestic market continues to show a steady growth but exports have slowed down especially in the EU countries in the absence of any fresh incentives from the respective governments.

With this, Mahindra & Mahindra, one of India's largest Utility Vehicle (UV) maker registered a sales growth of 19.84 percent in its total sales, during the period. The company sold 27,562 units of its vehicles in the Indian market during this month, as against 22,999 units it sold in the same period last year. The company continued its strong performance in the domestic market during the period with registering a 16.50 percent increase in its total domestic sales when compared to the same period last year.
