Auto sales show lower growth

The cumulative production data for April-June 2011 shows production growth of 18.43 percent over same period last year. In June 2011 as compared to June 2010, production grew at 16.61 percent.The cumulative domestic sales growth rate recorded for April-June 2011 was 15.14 percent. However, the month of June 2011 registered a lower growth rate of 12.84 percent as compared to June 2010.

Passenger Vehicles segment grew at 8.77 percent during April-June 2011 over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 7.30 percent, Utility Vehicles grew by 5.08 percent and Vans grew by 29.28 percent in this period. In June 2011, Passenger Cars and Utility Vehicles recorded substantially lower growth of 1.62 percent and 4.36 percent. Vans registered growth of 28.42 percent respectively.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered growth of 14.10 percent during April-June 2011 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered marginal growth of 5.12 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 22.11 percent. However, the sales in the month of June 2011 over June 2010 was 17.83 percent.

Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 4.92 percent in April-June 2011. While Passenger Carriers grew by only 1.61 percent during April-June 2011, Goods Carriers registered growth of 17.57 percent.Two Wheelers registered a growth of 16.89 percent during April-June 2011. Mopeds, Motorcycles and Scooters grew by 20.99 percent, 17.38 percent and 13.30 percent respectively.If we compare June 2011 to June 2010, the growth figures for three and two wheelers are also lower at 4.33 percent and 14.59 percent respectively.

During April-June 2011, overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 28.44 percent. Passenger Vehicles registered growth at 12.28 percent in this period. Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of 39.53 percent, 51.25 percent and 28.57 percent respectively during April-June 2011.In June 2011 compared to June 2010, overall automobile exports registered a lower growth of 25.46 percent.
