India is emerging as a hot-spot in the eyes of luxury car makers as BMW is planning to increase its network pan-India and penetrate Tier II cities likeCoimbatore, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Bhubhaneshwar and Lucknow. BMW has sold out 992 cars in the first quarter of 2009 which is good in number. The company currently has 12 dealers across India and it expects to increase the number to 22. BMW expects that each dealer from Tier II locations will contribute about 30-40 cars per year.
BMW India's President, Peter Kronschnabl reported that they had identified a couple of partners and in the next stage they would be going for sampling and in the next two years they expected that their volumes would pick up. BMW has already unveiled four new models this year with three more scheduled for launch. These include the petrol and diesel variants of its top-end sedan 7 series.
