Keep your fingers crossed to see the best from BMW at the 2012 Geneva Motors Show in March. Thanks to the BMW’s M division to come up with a new 3.0 L diesel engine with ample lot of bettered performance to power the BMW M550d, BMW M550d Touring, BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d. BMW’s journey to see some revved up performance has started with the four models which will be up for a display first at the Geneva Motor Show after which the four-wheel drive BMW SUVs will be slated for a launch in June 2012 in the international markets.

This also means that finally we are going to see the much hyped diesel variant of the BMW M5 sedan happening in not more than two months to go. The usual BMW’s 3.0 L diesel powertrain is given a much needed boost by the M division just to offer a BMW M5 diesel sedan to complement the extraordinary performance of the BMW M5 petrol. The 4.4 L V8 petrol engine seamlessly delivers the 552 Bhp power and 69.3 kgm torque output. But now, the 3.0L M performance diesel engine is not less competing against it with 376 Bhp at 4000-4500 rpm and with 6 kgm excess torque at 75.3 kgm at 2000 rpm. This is not all, the 3.0 L BMW M5 diesel is just 3 seconds slower in picking up the 100 kmph speed than its petrol counterpart.

This is by any means a huge improvement from before to surpass the performance figures of the current maximum priced BMW model in India, the BMW X7 series powered by the same 3.0L diesel engine with an additional 76 Bhp and 14.2 kgm excess power and torque output as seen in the new M performance 3.0 L diesel powertrain.

The 3.0 L six cylinder tri-turbo engine developed by the BMW’s M-division is spruced up with a close engine overhaul to offer some exceptional performance not only in the power and torque outputs as we can see the better numbers in all the BMW cars gearing up for the great show at the Motor Show. But, obviously with the great amount of effort went in for better performance, BMW hopes to maintain a clear distinction among the M performance BMW cars and the rest of the line-up,  which is likely to be evident from the leather touches on the steering wheel, dashboard and steel inserts on the sill plates just to stand out from the rest.
