With the Diwali season fast approaching, it looks like along with all the other automakers, even Renault is getting ready to capitalize on the festivities. To do so, Renault will launch the Kwid, which happens to be an entry level crossover hatchback. In few cities, dealerships have started accepting Renault Kwid bookings and dealers in other cities are expected to do the same, quite soon.
The booking amount for Renault Kwid varies from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000 and is relative to the location of the dealerships, but it a good percentage of Renault Kwid price.
The French automaker's offering will be an industry first in India, as an entry level crossover hatchback. The crossover DNA is not just aesthetically limited to the body cladding, the car also comes with SUV features like 180mm of ground clearance. In the looks department, the Kwid makes its appeal with muscular design, flaired fenders, protruding front bumper, creased roof and bonnet.
The interiors of the Renault Kwid manage to hold their own against the exterior. The car comes with an all-digital instrument cluster, centrally located air-con and power window controls and high set air-con vents. The digital infotainment system is a first in class offering, which will be featured in the top end model and the boot space offered by the Renault Kwid will be class leading. The 6.0-inch infotainment system will come with USB and aux connectivity.
Renault has bestowed Kwid with a 800cc petrol power-plant, which will be mated to a manual transmission. Rumors suggest that a bigger 1.0-liter version, which may feature an AMT will also be made available by the company in the future.
According to the dealers, Kwid deliveries will probably start sometime in the end of September, however these are speculations, as no official statement in context of the launch date or pricing has been disclosed by the company but the car is expected to cost around Rs 3-4 lakh (ex-showroom).
