Honda is aiming to increase its production capacity in Indonesia from 60k units/year to 180k units/year by using a new manufacturing unit coming up in the Karawang Industrial Park of Jakarta, which will be used as the basis of exports of the components and car for the company. The manufacturing unit will start the production of Honda Brio MPV by 2014. The reason behind manufacturing the Brio-based MPV is the increasing demand of the compact MPV models in the Asian countries.
Nissan NV200 Evalia and Suzuki Ertiga are the two renewed MPV models, which have been introduced in the Indonesian market and were well received. To build the Honda MPV, the wheelbase could be stretched out adding to the MPV a third row of seats and there after constructing the complete new body of the car. As the car has the hardware of the Honda Brio, the prices of the MPV could be quoted below Rs. 10 Lakhs. If Honda wishes to compete with Maruti, it has to make sure that the lowest variant of the car has to be priced at around Rs. 6 lakhs.
As per the plans of Honda, the MPV will be launched in the year 2014 which means that the testing of the vehicle will start somewhere around in the next year. There are chances of the new Honda Brio-based MPV to be launched in India soon because every automobile manufacturer constantly looks towards the ways, in which they can serve into the people-mover market of India. Besides launching the new Honda Brio MPV in Indonesia, the Honda India is planning to launch a number of new cars with diesel engine option by 2014.
