March 08, 2016: Update: Maruti has launched its most awaited car this year, the Vitara Brezza. Priced at an amazing Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the car is sure to be successful, given the features and styling it comes in. The car features attractive colour options to suit one's individual taste. The DDiS200 diesel mill in the Brezza gives it a class leading fuel economy of 24.3kmpl and a 0 to 100kmph run of 13.3 seconds. It boasts many segment first features, both inside and outside the car. Know complete details at Maruti Vitara Brezza Launched at Rs 6.99 lakh.
Maruti Vitara Brezza is the latest kid on the block which has generated quite a buzz around itself. The compact SUV from the house of Maruti Suzuki, is due to be launched on March 8. On paper, the Brezza seems to tick all the right boxes to be a big volume car for Maruti. For starters, it is an SUV, which the masses have been lapping up by the dozen. Secondly, it houses a reliable diesel engine with segment best efficiency. It’s got all the latest gizmos too, including a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. Last but not the least, it is compact with a high ground clearance to tackle the worst of road conditions. Here is everything you need to know in order to make an informed decision:
Looks and Size
We feel the car is just the right size for chaotic Indian cities. With the length a mere 5mm shorter than 4 meters, and a width of 1790mm, it is well suited for the urban jungle. The car has a certain masculine appeal attached to it, courtesy its SUV-like stance. The dual-tone paint scheme is sure to grab a lot of eyeballs.
Consumers have an option to buy this car with customised theme called ‘Glamour’, ‘Urban’ and ‘Sporty’. The car also features ‘Bull Horn’ shaped LED DRLs underlining the projector headlamps. The alloys are well designed, 10 or 15 spokes (depending on the theme) R16 units, which in turn enhance the overall appeal of the car.
Power, Efficiency and Safety
The 1.3-litre DDiS200 engine powering the Brezza, is a tried and tested, reliable motor. The Fiat sourced unit has earned laurels for the Indian auto giant in the past and has been well accepted by the customer base. It has just enough power (89 bhp & 200Nm torque) to not feel under-powered and provides the user with proficient fuel efficiency of 24.3kmpl. In the current state of tune, we feel that this is certainly the best suited engine for the Brezza from Maruti’s inventory. That said, we would love to see the 1.0 litre Boosterjet or the 1.4 litre K-Series Petrol mill in this SUV. The 1.6 litre motor from the S-Cross though, is a distant reality - thanks to the sub 4 metre regulations.
On safety front, the car comes packed with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Suzuki TECT design to keep the occupants safe. Each of the above mentioned safety features are available across all the variants, which is a move we wholeheartedly appreciate.
Price and Rivalry
The Brezza, will rival its fellow compact SUVs, like the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300. On the other hand, this car will also attract customers from the market space of premium hatchbacks and C-segment sedans. Allow us to explain, we expect this car to be priced around Rs. 7 to 9.5 lac. In this price bracket, the car will cross fade with the higher variants of premium hatchbacks and the lower variants of C-segment sedans. Anyone who wants a sub 4-meter car and is looking at premium hatchbacks like Baleno, Jazz, i20 and Polo, should definitely walk into the Maruti showroom and give the Brezza a look.
Also, for people who are scavenging the lower variants of C-segment sedans, the Brezza will offer a better level of kit at the same price point.
Well it is safe to say that the Brezza is well equipped, well designed and has a trustworthy, reliable engine. It will all boil down to the pricing, and this just might change the course of history for B+ segment in the Indian auto space.
