Diesel car sales to upsurge due to hike in petrol prices

Latest updates from Indian Automobile world states that Automobile giants like Maruti and Volkswagen said that due to the recent hike in petrol prices and increasing burden on common man’s wallet, people are drifting toward Diesel cars. Also backed by advantages like low price and high mileage, market is expecting huge growth in the sales of Diesel cars in India. It is said that in comparison with existing 30% share in new car sales, next three-to-four years will see a contribution of 50% share of diesel cars.

According to survey reports, the sales figure of diesel cars has already gained the speed and are about to surpass the sales of petrol cars. Likewise, with repeated increase in difference between the prices of the two fuels, diesel cars are going to get the advantage. As the demand of diesel is reaching heights, more and more car companies are planning to roll out diesel variants of their existing models. Auto industry experts commented that since the running cost of diesel cars is lower as compared to petrol cars and with government taking no initiative in making petrol prices lower, consumers are now keeping diesel cars in their preference list. No doubt petrol cars are going to stand in the line, but diesel variants are expected to enter the waiting lists soon.

If reports are to be believed, Maruti Cars like Maruti SX4 Diesel, Maruti Swift Diesel, Maruti Dzire Diesel with Volkswagen Polo Diesel and Ford Figo Diesel enjoyed the favoritism ever since they were launched in Indian car market. Maruti Neeraj Garg, director of sales at Volkswagen Passenger Cars said that Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Vento are main selling models of the company and company is having 50% of their sales based on diesel variants. Complying with the ongoing condition of Indian auto market, car companies like Hyundai is planning to establish diesel engine plant in India and other car companies like Maruti, GM and Ford are increasing the manufacturing capacity of diesel engine units.
