Nissan India will ideally phase out the X-Trail in 2014, and we could see a new crossover or SUV replacing it. There is no doubt that X-Trail is an excellent product, but for some reasons it has been a favourite of the Indian hoi-polloi as it has only five seats, and doesn’t have the bling that Indian people consider to be good for good presence.
Despite being an excellent product, it hasn’t pleased the taste of several. Hence, to cater to them Nissan will get three SUVs in India. The first one, we all know is the Nissan’s version of the Duster, which is due to come around festive season. A 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine and a 1.6-litre petrol engine will be the powertrain options for this SUV. A while ago, some images of the Nissan Duster were leaked on the internet, and the fascia will be similar to that of the X-Trail. The interiors of the Nissan’s version will receive a cosmetic change and it will have different controls and even a music system could be used.
The second will be the replacement for the X-Trail and it will be ideally a crossover/SUV with seven seats and contemporary styling. The facts for the third SUV are still not known, but it will ideally be the B-segment compact SUV.
The X-Trail replacement will be ideally launched sometime in 2014. Earlier, the company had plans to introduce the Infiniti brand in India, and those plans are still on hold.
