First Tata Nano to delivered on Friday

Today on 16th July, India's largest auto manufacturer Tata Motors said that they are going to deliver the first Tata Nano on Friday. Tata Nano is well known as the world's cheapest car and it is already much delayed for Indian market. Tata Motor' Chairman Ratan Tata had showcased this model at an auto expo in New Delhi in January last year, but the first phase of customer bookings for Tata Nano started in the month of April this year. This project was much delayed due because of violent protests by the farmers due to land disputes at its planned site in Singur. Tata Motors has assured the price protection for its first 100,000 customers, for whom the cars will be available at Rs 1,00,000, excluding taxes.
Tata Motors currently producing Tata Nano from its interim manufacturing plant at Pantnagar which has the manufacturing capacity of 50,000 units of cars per year. But company hopes that this figure will raise to 2.5 lacs units when its Sanad based manufacturing plant in Gujrat starts in December. Tata Motors sold total 6.10 lakh registration forms of Tata Nano and collects nearly Rs 2,500 crore by 2.03 lakh bookings.
The company official said that those customers whose names do not figured in the first one-lakh list for Tata Nano delivery, have been given option of retaining the booking and get interest on booking amount which will be in effect from July 2009.
