Ford EcoSport SUV to measure 4.25 m

Ford India has just proved that what we have been believing in until now is completely false. The Indian car market was literally hung up on the word 'compact' tagged with the Ford EcoSport SUV till now. To everyone's surprise the SUV is not a mini version as we have hoped but a full grown SUV over 4 m in length measuring 4.25 m from head to tail, although the engine pack of 1.0 L EcoBoost engine for revved up performance and a 1.5 L Ford Fiesta diesel engine is not a lie. But, all the same, Ford India definitely seems to be mulling over the idea of introducing the compact version going forward to live up to its promise.

For now though, we will have to settle down for the bigger model although the Ford EcoSport price would be no disappointment in the range of Rs 7-9 lakh, the auto major hopes to materialise through the localised production of the SUV. There were literally stories spun around the Ford EcoSport SUV in India and managed to create enough hullabullo in the Indian car market for its compact size combined with the overwhelming performance. The car was said to be based on the Ford Fiesta paltform, but all this gave away to something else altogether. The Ford EcoSport has been existing in the Brazilian market for over 9 years now and continues to garner amazing sales with the unique body style and unparalleled spacious interiors.  Ford's president for Asia Pacific and Africa, Joe Henerichs shares with us the very reason went behind their decision to come out with the existing model in contrary to their plans to introduce a chopped down version.

The denial was outright as the company hopes to create an aura around the Ford EcoiSport with its unmatched looks and features before it lays down the plans for the compact version in future. Ford Fiesta in India has never managed to impress the consumers so there is absolutely no point in banking on the Ford Fiesta platform and would rather go for a simple trimming along the length to avail the governments's policy on the under four meter lenght vehicles as the engine capacities are well in tandem already. Neverhteless, if you were hoping to see a new model from Ford India based on the Ford Fiesta platform, do not worry as the Ford Fiesta hatchback is still in the making which will definitely launch in India at one point or the other. Didn't get it yet, Ford India did display the rough skeleton at the 2012 Auto Expo just to tempt the Indian car fans as to what we are going to get from Ford.
