Ford Motors has opened a new engine plant in Camacari, Brazil situated in Ford Northeast Industrial Complex. The plant was inaugurated on April 9th and is entitled to produce all-new 3-cylinder 1.0 liter ECOnetic petrol engine. The company has already started the production of the 1.0 liter ECOnetic motor that incorporates dual-command TiVCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing). The motor will be used in the nex-gen Ford KA/Figo and Figo compact sedan (displayed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo). This engine will also power the 'Blue Ovals' upcoming compact line-ups.
This year the American manufacturer is in 'overdrive' launching nearly 23 global products. As per the manufacturer's 'One Ford' policy, the Indian counterpart will be getting all the global product just like we get the EcoSport and new Fiesta. John Fleming, Ford’s executive vice president, Global Manufacturing and Labor Affairs. “This year, Ford is embarking on the company’s most aggressive product launch cadence, introducing 23 new vehicles globally. This engine plant will help to support our manufacturing and product growth strategy.”
The petrol motor is flex-fuel enabled (Brazil has flex-fuel options) and is expected to produce 85bhp at 6,500 rpm and 105 Nm at 4,500 rpm when driven with petrol-ethanol. With this power and torque, it makes the petrol counterpart of the nex-gen Figo at par with the competitors like Swift, Grand i10 and others. The engine will also power the new Figo compact sedan.
The new ECOnetic engine range has definitely inherited properties from the big brother EcoBoost powerplants (the 1.0 liter EcoBoost is two times engine of the year 2012-2013). The state of the art facility features 300 trained personnel; it also uses central management system which connects everything through Wi-Fi, enabling better management and quality control. This new engine will also be produced at the Ford's upcoming pant in Sanand Gujarat from next year. The nex-gen Ford Figo duo are expect to hit later this year or early next year- nothing is sure until now which will come first, the hatch or the sedan. Cheers to Ford!!
