Every car maker in the country is aware of the fact that how high is the demand for diesel cars. To get benefit from the situation, Honda Motors is planning to introduce the diesel variant of its bestselling compact car, Honda Brio. However, there hasn’t been any launch date set for the Honda Brio diesel, but it is expected that diesel variant of this compact car will be seen on the Indian roads this year itself. Launching diesel variant of Honda Brio will certainly pump up the market share of the company in the Indian car market substantially.

Honda Motors India is currently bust testing its recently developed diesel technology, common rail i-DTEC on its compact car and might introduce 1.2 litre of diesel engine for the car. Honda City sedan and Honda Jazz hatchback are powered with much larger diesel engine that could be introduced later on. Earlier, Honda India planned to introduce its diesel cars in 2013, but looking at the rising demand, things are moving on with fast speed.

As per Honda’s spokesperson, the company is extremely committed to introducing its diesel technology to the world’s most thriving car market, India. Furthermore to make sure that Honda’s diesel technology is perfect for the local conditions and proffers finest performance levels, the company is bust carrying out rigorous tests at Honda’s research and development centers located across numerous locations.

Honda Motors India is absolutely dedicated on repossessing the market share from competitors like Toyota and Volkswagen, who are active in selling their diesel cars in huge chunks. Honda actually made its official entry in India in the year 1995 and didn’t get an impressive start. In 2011, the sales of Honda Seil cars were dipping at a high rate and the major reason behind it was the unavailability of diesel variants and sky rocketing petrol prices.

Honda’s output in India was also effected badly as there was a shortage of components after the drastic and unfortunate floods in Thailand last year. This led to a whopping loss of 36% in production in the time period of April to December 2011.  The new diesel engine technology of Honda, i-DTEC engine is nicknamed as ‘Earth Dreams Technology’ that was first seen in the brand new Honda Civic sedan launched in Europe this year.

The diesel cars of Honda running on the streets of India will definitely enhance its brand value and could boost up its market share in the country. Honda Brio hatchback diesel is expected to be a great success as the petrol version can stop climbing the ladder of success. According to the statistics, about 26% of rise in sales were seen in the first nine months of the present financial year of diesel cars. And during the same time period, about 18% of petrol car sales were seen dipping down. Apparently, diesel cars sales account for more than 80% of the sales like Hyundai Verna and Maruti Swift, which are offered in both diesel and petrol versions.
