Honda Cars India annouced its commitment to sales by posting a 30 per cent increase in domestic sales for the month of April. According to the Japanese automaker, which is currently readying itself for the launch of Mobilio in about two months time, is focussing on dealership expansion and end customer. This seems to have boosted the sales chart as the number rose to 11,040 units as compared 8,488 units for the same period last year.
"We have started the financial year 2014 - 15 on a positive note and would like thank our customers for the fantastic response to the all new Honda City. We also celebrated the 1st anniversary of Honda Amaze by introducing the anniversary edition and we are confident of its good sales in this fiscal as well", commented Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd.
Having recently launched the City, the run away success in terms to this increase is that of this saloon sold 7,044 units during the last month alone. The Amaze came in second registering a number of 3,355 unit sales. This is followed by Brio which clocked 578 units and the CR-V contributing 63 units to the sales number.
As far as exports are considered, the automaker contributes to a healthy number of 402 units which brings its overall sales tally to 11,442 units sold during the month of April 2014. Right from its launch the new City has been a success. The Japanese brand reigned supremacy in the mid-sedan segment with the Honda City. But when the diesel powered Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento sales started gaining ground, the City saw a dip in sales numbers. This was due to the lack of a diesel power plant in its line-up.
Finally Honda bought i-Dtec diesel engine technology to India in a quest to gain lost ground. And now the numbers speak for themselves. Honda is already reaping benefits with the launch of the new City, which now comes in both petrol and diesel engine options. Honda boasts an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 26kmpl for the Diesel City and an impressive 18kmpl for the petrol powered car with an automatic CVT transmission. The only sad part is that Honda’s car line-up has squeezed, with the Civic and the Accord now no more available. We do expect the Accord to make a comeback but very fewer hopes can be settled on the Civic coming back.
