Honda has made additions to the WR-V’s features list to make it adhere to new safety norms

  • New V variant added, but only available with diesel engine.

  • The new V variant is priced at Rs 9.95 lakh, Rs 40,000 lesser than the top-spec VX diesel.

  • The new V variant is essentially the the top-spec VX, except the sunroof.

  • Mandatory safety features added across variants.

  • S and VX variants also updated with new features.

Japanese carmaker Honda has introduced a new variant of its sub-4 metre crossover WR-V. Called the V, it will sit in between the existing S and VX variants. The feature list of the S and VX variants has also been updated. The new V variant is priced at Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

The newly introduced V variant of the WR-V will only be available with a diesel engine. It gets quite a few features such as LED DRLs, front fog lamps and 16-inch alloy wheels (now standard across the range).

On the inside, it gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, auto AC, passive keyless entry with one-push start/stop, a tilt and telescopically adjustable steering among others. Unlike the Jazz and Amaze, the WR-V does not get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay even with this update.

Safety is taken care of by dual front airbags and ABS with EBD. Rear parking sensors, front seatbelt reminder and high speed alert system. To aid in reversing the vehicle, you also get a camera.

The base-spec S variant of the WR-V has been updated with 16-inch alloy wheels, auto AC, front fog lamps, speed-sensing auto door lock, retractable key, driver side one-touch window up/down, vanity mirror on both sun visors, rear parking sensors, front passenger seatbelt reminder and a high speed alert system.

The VX variant, apart from its usual features, now also gets a leather wrapped steering wheel, speed-sensing auto door locks, vanity mirror on both sun visors, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminder for front passengers and a high speed alert system. So, basically Honda has updated both the existing S and VX variants to comply with the new safety norms, which came into effect from 1 July 2019.

The changes made to the S and VX variant are applicable for both petrol and diesel variants. Here are the variant wise prices of the WR-V.

Variant

Petrol

Diesel

S

Rs 8.15 lakh

Rs 9.25 lakh

V

Rs 9.95 lakh

VX

Rs 9.25 lakh

Rs 10.35 lakh

The new V variant bridges the gap between the base-spec diesel S and VX. It is roughly around Rs 70,000 dearer than S and Rs 40,000 more affordable than the S. The major difference between the new V variant and the top-spec VX variant is the absence of a sunroof in the former. So, V is a relatively affordable, fully-loaded variant for someone who doesn’t want to spend more just for the sunroof.
