It’s likely to share its powertrains, save for the 1.5-litre petrol, with the 5-seat version
-
Hyundai Creta 7-seater launch expected in Q2 2021.
-
The elongated Creta could get only the 1.5-litre diesel and the 1.4-litre turbo petrol.
-
Expected to command a premium of Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding Creta variant.
-
Will differ considerably cosmetically from the Creta, especially the rear profile.
-
Expected to be named Alcazar.
Hyundai India seems to have planned an all-out offensive for SUVs in the Rs 10 lakh to 20 lakh range. After bringing in the new-gen Creta, it will also launch a Creta 7-seater which is likely to reach showrooms in 2021 Q2. The grapevines in the past have also revealed that it could bear a name different from the Creta. In fact, Hyundai had trademarked the name Alcazar, which could possibly be for this 7-seater.
Spy shots in the past have revealed that the upcoming three-row Creta could have visual differentiators on the exterior over the 5-seater. Expect a revised front grille with an extra helping of chrome, flatter roof towards the back end, additional rear quarter and thinner C-pillar and obviously, an extension in the overhangs. The tail lamps and alloy wheels are also likely to witness a do-over with the former expected to look a little less polarising.
Interior is likely to bear similarities with the 5-seater Creta, which means a 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered driver seat and air purifier. Expect safety equipment to be similar to the Creta as well with multiple airbags, front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor and ESP (electronic stability program).
The 7-seater Creta’s second row could get either a bench or a captain seat setup. The third row is naturally expected to be a foldable unit, which could free up more boot space than the usual 430 litres.
Given the extra weight, Hyundai is likely to refrain from offering the lower powered 1.5-litre petrol from the Creta with the 7-seater. Instead, it could only get the 1.4-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. We expect Hyundai to offer the 1.4-litre turbo petrol with a 6-speed manual as well, unlike the regular Creta. Check out the specifications below.

The 7-seat Creta could be sold at a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard model’s (Rs 9.82 lakh to Rs 17.32 lakh) corresponding variants. The three-row Creta with its more accommodating cabin will be better equipped to take on mid-size SUVs such as the Harrier and the Hector. Apart from that, it could also be an alternative to the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Gravitas.
