The Hyundai Elantra Petrol-AT has a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.6kmpl
Hyundai recently introduced the facelifted Elantra in India at Rs 15.89 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is offered with a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre petrol-only engine which is good for 152PS of power and 192Nm of peak torque. The Elantra comes with both a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Its ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure stands at 14.6kmpl for both powertrains. Hence, we decided to put the automatic version to test and noted the mileage it delivered per litre of fuel. Here’s what the numbers reveal:

1999cc |
Power |
152PS |
Torque |
192Nm |

Claimed Fuel Efficiency |

Tested Fuel Efficiency (highway) |
16.28kmpl |

We tested the Hyundai sedan in mixed driving conditions and here is what we found:
Mileage |
City:Highway (50:50) |
City:Highway (25:75) |
City:Highway (75:25) |
14.62kmpl |
15.4kmpl |
13.91kmpl |
While the new Elantra failed to meet its claimed fuel efficiency figures in the city, it did pretty well on the highway. Though the recorded figures are measured in a controlled environment, we were able to achieve 1.68kmpl more than its claimed figures while testing it on the highway.
In case your regular commute is restricted to the city, then expect the facelifted Elantra to deliver an average mileage of around 13kmpl. On the other hand, if you use the sedan for travelling outside the city, the overall efficiency figure should go up by about 1.5kmpl. Meanwhile, if you are someone whose commute is equally divided between the city and highway, the fuel economy would hover around 14kmpl.
It is important to note that these figures are just indicative and bound to change depending on the road and car conditions along with the vehicle’s health. But if you own an Elantra AT petrol, please share your findings with us and fellow users in the comments section. Also, if you own the manual version, let us know by how much its fuel efficiency figure differs with that of the AT variant.
